We are a Year 2 class of 29 children, taught by Miss Dawson and supported by Mrs Hartley.
Our PE lessons are on Tuesday and Thursday this half term so please make sure we have named PE kits in school and that we are not wearing earrings on this day.
Homework is given out on a Friday and it needs to be handed in no later than Wednesday. This includes a piece of English or maths work and is linked to what we have been learning about. We write our new spellings down on a Thursday to learn for a test the following Thursday.
We really like reading so we ask our grown ups to listen to us read and comment in our reading diaries so that we can get our book changed - just a small comment and a signature is fine! Books will continue to be changed in class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so please remember to put them in the blue basket.
Monday 6th January - Back to school
Wednesday 8th January - Fire Fighter Visit in Year 2
Friday 14th February - Finish School
What have the Owls been up to?
Keep checking as photos will be added throughout the year!
To end our Victorian theme we had a whole day in the past! The children dressed up and changed their names to traditional Victorian names. They practised handwriting and arithmetic and also tried some sewing and natural drawings. They also did some drill exercises and finished with a tea party. We all had a fantastic day!
Our First Marble Treat!
After working extremely hard all half term, the children have managed to fill the class marble stick and earn themselves a treat! They decided on a PJ party and brought along their blankets and teddies too.
We played party games and then got nice and cosy to continue reading our current class novel 'Fantastic Mr Fox' by Roald Dahl.
We have been learning about the book 'The Tiger who came to Tea' and have been changing parts of the story to create our own version. Here we are making our own animals so that we can describe them using adjectives. Ask us about our animals!
We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. To help us explore their properties more, we made our own shapes!
Autumn 2 Learning
This half term we will be learning about a variety of things in Maths; place value, addition, subtraction and even starting to think more about multiplication and division. We will build on our methods from year 1 and enhance our mental methods. We will also strengthen our problem solving skills in the above areas.
Our English will begin this half term looking at Instructions. We will be following a recipe and making our own tasty pizzas to try!
We will then learn about Adventure stories. Someone has left behind some clues to begin and we will learn more about the text 'Alice in Wonderland'. We will examine character thoughts, feelings and actions, create news and build up ideas to write our own version of the story.
Our new topic 'Victorians' will help us to compare past and present. We will observe old and new objects and begin to sort them using correct vocabulary. We will also learn more about Queen Victoria and order events onto a timeline. We will design and create our own Victorian style food and recipes. To end the theme we will experience our own 'Victorian Day' and what school life would have been like in the Victorian era.
In PE, this half term we are very lucky to have coaching. We will link our dancing to a new rock and roll theme and prepare for a little class performance at the end! Our second PE lesson each week will be to improve our gymnastic skills, focussing on travels and shapes.

We will then move on learn more about what keeps things alive and make some food chains of our own. We will finish our learning with a scientific experiment to enhance our scientific enquiry skills and consider our own 'what if' questions.

We will write our own version of a traditional tale in a talk for write style and enhance our writing with adjectives, adverbs and punctuation.
In our maths work we will look at a range of subjects including place value, measurement, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, shape and statistics and solve lots of problems to apply our learning! We will use a range of methods to solve these, focusing on our jottings.
