Stay safe everyone

From Miss Dawson and Mrs Hartley

We are a Year 2 class of 29 children, taught by Miss Dawson and supported by Mrs Hartley.

Our PE lessons are on Tuesday and Wednesday this half term so please make sure we have named PE kits in school and that we are not wearing earrings on this day.

Homework is given out on a Friday and it needs to be handed in no later than Wednesday. This includes a piece of English or maths work and is linked to what we have been learning about. We write our new spellings down on a Thursday to learn for a test the following Thursday.

We really like reading so we ask our grown ups to listen to us read and comment in our reading diaries so that we can get our book changed - just a small comment and a signature is fine! Books will continue to be changed in class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so please remember to put them in the blue basket.

What have the Owls been up to?

Keep checking as photos will be added throughout the year!

Fruit Tasting for our Fruit Kebabs

As part of our 'Carnival' theme we researched different fruits that were eaten in Brazil as carnival refreshments. We tasted some them designed and made our own delicious fruit kebabs. We enjoyed these after our exciting carnival day in school!

Victorian Day

To end our Victorian theme we had a whole day in the past! The children dressed up and changed their names to traditional Victorian names. They practised handwriting and arithmetic and also tried some sewing and natural drawings. They also did some drill exercises and finished with a tea party. We all had a fantastic day!

Diwali Celebrations

Our First Marble Treat!

After working extremely hard all half term, the children have managed to fill the class marble stick and earn themselves a treat! They decided on a PJ party and brought along their blankets and teddies too.

We played party games and then got nice and cosy to continue reading our current class novel 'Fantastic Mr Fox' by Roald Dahl.

English

We have been learning about the book 'The Tiger who came to Tea' and have been changing parts of the story to create our own version. Here we are making our own animals so that we can describe them using adjectives. Ask us about our animals!

Maths

We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. To help us explore their properties more, we made our own shapes!

Summer 2

English

This half term we are learning about extended stories. We will be listening to 'George's Marvellous Medicine' and explore the characters in detail. We will also learn more about the main events in the plot and how these impact upon each other. To complete the topic, we will be writing our own stories! We will also be reading some poetry and doing lots of role play!

Maths

We are building on our knowledge of number, shape, position and direction this half term. We will be applying our learning of number when solving some tricky problems. We will also use cars, beebots and ICT to explore different turns and the directions we must move in. After that, we will observe some shapes and learn more about their properties including locating some right angles, the linking this to our turn work!

PE

In PE, we are completing lots of athletic activities this half term. We are focusing on kicking, jumping and different types of throwing.

Science

This half term we are learning more about bodies and how to stay healthy. We will label different parts and begin to think more about organs and their jobs. We will also conduct some experiments on staying healthy and having good hygiene.

Theme

This half term is very exciting as we are learning about significant people – this year we are focusing on some remarkable men, including one from Preston! We will learn more about their achievements and build on our D&T skills too.

RE

We are learning about Sikhism and showing devotion. Children will share their own experiences and understanding. We will observe important symbols and consider why worship is so important. We will learn more about religious rituals and how they may help.

Computing

In Computing, we will use laptops, computers and IPads to learn more about algorithms. We will learn how to use the internet safely and understand other uses of technology.
